Sustainable Development

Following an accidental fire caused by a young herder roasting cassava near the U-RISE demonstration farm, a large section of land was damaged. Rather than assigning blame, U-RISE turned the incident into an opportunity for collaborative restoration. In partnership with MK Forestry Services and the family involved, we reforested the affected area through a community-led agroforestry initiative. U-RISE provided financial support, MK Forestry Services offered technical expertise (pictured: Mukasa Onen inspecting the field), and the family now maintains the trees while using intercropped food crops strictly for home consumption. To further support the child, we provide a monthly stipend to keep him in school and reduce time spent grazing livestock—reinforcing our values of sustainability, education, and compassion-driven development.
